In July 2024, the volume of frozen white leg shrimp imported into South Korea totaled 526 tons, marking a 27% 

decrease compared to the 718 tons imported during the same period last year. The cumulative import volume for the year 

up to July stood at 3,749 tons, a 5% decline from the 3,950 tons imported during the same period in 2023. 

This accounts for approximately 0.7% of the total seafood imports, which amounted to 511,277 tons.

Ecuador was the primary source of frozen white leg shrimp imports, accounting for 63% of the total with 2,352 tons. 

Other key suppliers included Malaysia with 761 tons, Vietnam with 258 tons, Peru with 215 tons, and Saudi Arabia 

with 163 tons. The highest import price was from Malaysia at USD 7.44/kg, followed by Ecuador at USD 6.00/kg, 

while Saudi Arabia had the lowest price at USD 4.72/kg.

The total value of frozen whiteleg shrimp imports in July 2024 was USD 3.1 million, a 34% decrease from USD 4.66 million 

in the same month last year. The cumulative import value for the year reached USD 23.63 million, down 9% 

from USD 25.95 million in 2023. The average import price was USD 6.30/kg, reflecting a 4% decline from 

the previous year's USD 6.57/kg. 

As a reference, the domestic wholesale distribution price for frozen whiteleg shrimp from Ecuador is currently 

set at KRW 139,000 for a 12kg package, size 21/30.
